At Metro, Safety and Security are Always a Priority
Metro Transit Police Serve and Protect You

The primary mission of the Metro Transit Police is to ensure your safety and security while riding Metro-operated buses and using our facilities. Metro Transit Police officers in uniform and in plain clothes routinely patrol our buses, facilities and the downtown transit tunnel. Police officers target areas to maximize police visibility and prevent criminal activity. Metro Police have all the powers conferred upon police officers in cities and towns within King County.

Instant Communications Network

You are not alone when you ride Metro-operated buses. Every bus has a direct link to Metro's Communication Center - even when in tunnels. Our bus driversb are constantly updated with current information that can affect bus service or customers. Additionally, this direct link allows drivers to have immediate contact should an emergency or incident occur.
Each bus is also equipped with a public address system that allows the operator to make announcements to passengers. New and renovated transit facilities also have public address systems.
Visual Monitoring for Added Protection

Many Metro buses are equipped with onboard security cameras. These cameras provide a view of the interior of the bus and constant monitoring of activity to ensure your safety.
The Metro bus tunnel is also equipped with closed circuit television cameras.
Safety-Certified Drivers
All Metro bus drivers are trained and periodically recertified in defensive driving skills. They are closely monitored by supervisors and instructors to ensure they maintain consistent, high levels of safe driving performance.
Evening Safety Programs
Night Stop Service: Metro offers special "Night Stop" drop-off service between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. At your request, your driver can let you off at any point along your bus route where it is safe for the bus to stop. Drivers cannot make Night Stops in the Ride Free Area. The bus will still make all regularly scheduled stops. For safety reasons, the lift or ramp will be deployed at regular stops only. Read more about the Night Stop Program.
Front Door Exit/Entrance Only: After 7 p.m., for extra evening security, board and exit buses via front doors only.
